About Us

Founded in 2011, the International Antimicrobial Council (IAC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports decision makers through independent scientific research, comprehensive knowledge sharing, analytical testing, and technical guidance that helps them navigate complex challenges with confidence and clarity.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to promoting the safe and effective use of antimicrobials and odor-controlling technologies within industries where microbial contamination is of concern.

Our Vision

A collaborative global ecosystem where science guides progress, knowledge drives clarity, and responsible decisions shape the future of treated articles and environmental safety.

Our Approach

By combining scientific expertise with collaborative engagement, we turn complex technical challenges into practical pathways of informed decision making that results in long-term solutions.

Scientific Integrity and Independence

At the IAC, we apply scientific integrity through consistent evaluation, structured review processes, and adherence to established technical frameworks. Our work prioritizes accuracy, reproducibility, and clarity so that the efficacy and reliability communicated in data and results can be interpreted with confidence. We support the responsible advancement of antimicrobial and odor control technologies by emphasizing evidence based analysis and practical technical understanding. Our non-profit status and independence allows the IAC to provide objective perspectives that help reduce confusion and improve decisionmaking across the industry.

We maintain independence by separating scientific evaluation from commercial influence and by applying transparent methodologies across our programs. The IAC encourages critical thinking, continuous improvement, and open technical dialogue with laboratories, standards bodies, and industry stakeholders. This approach strengthens confidence in scientific outcomes while promoting responsible innovation and realistic expectations for performance.

By focusing on disciplined evaluation and clear communication, the IAC helps establish a foundation of trust that supports long term progress.

How We Advance Our Mission

To advance our mission, the IAC is committed to the following values:

Strengthen scientific understanding through independent research, testing, and education.

Conduct cross-laboratory studies and guide standards organizations to achieve accurate and reproducible testing data.

Test method development for improved evaluations on the efficacy and reliability of technologies on treated articles.

Independent guidance that supports accurate claims, regulatory alignment, and informed decisions.

What We Do

The IAC provides analytical testing, performance verification, education programs, laboratory certification, and research and development initiatives. We contribute to the creation and improvement of standardized test methods through collaboration with organizations such as AATCC, ASTM, ISO, JIS, and other technical bodies. Our programs support companies in understanding performance categories, evaluating technology claims, and navigating complex regulatory frameworks. In addition, the IAC develops guidance documents and global standards that improve consistency across antimicrobial and odor control applications.

Education and Industry Advancement

Education is a key pillar of the IAC. Through structured training, seminars, and certification pathways, we equip professionals with the knowledge required to understand technologies, testing methods, and regulatory expectations. Our Education Center supports continuous learning for laboratories, manufacturers, brands, retailers, and regulators. By improving technical literacy, we help organizations make better decisions and develop products that perform as intended.

Supporting Responsible Innovation

Antimicrobial and odor control technologies continue to evolve, creating both new opportunities and new challenges. The IAC works closely with industry and regulatory agencies to evaluate and advise on emerging technologies, active substances, and modes of action while advancing test methods that support accurate evaluation of efficacy, reliability, and durability. This work helps identify best practices for treated articles and strengthens confidence in performance outcomes. Our goal is to encourage innovation that balances performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. Through collaborative research and practical guidance, we help ensure that new solutions meet real world expectations.
